PA - Judge Opiela

The work of Judge can seem never-ending.  District Court 05-2-02 is one of the busiest in district offices in Allegheny County.

In the last seven (7) years case filings have exceeded 45,000. Likewise, collection of revenues, fines, costs and restitution has substantially increased. In calendar year 2004 and 2005, we averaged collections of $617,000.00 dollars per year, however, due to changes in case processing procedures, collection policy and increased case filings we averaged collections of CLOSE TO ONE MILLION dollars per year in 2007-2009.

These statistics represent more than collection of money, it represents a policy of holding participants accountable.   The net result is a system rooted in responsibility, justice, and fairness for the entire community.  As you can see for 2010 we had the most criminal case filings in the last ten (10) years.
